The Objectives of the program
The objectives of the program are mainly to provide the foundation for professionals who engage in the research and teaching of physics or related disciplines, as well as to cultivate talents who can apply physics to high-tech and other fields in modern society. After study and training in this program, the graduates should have a good standard of scientific spirit, scientific literacy, scientific conduct and innovative consciousness. At the same time, they should have the foundation for further study in physics and related disciplines, or meet the requirements for pursuing careers in teaching, scientific research, technology development and management, etc.
This program emphasizes on systematically improving students' comprehensive quality, cultivating socialist builders and successors who are fully developed in moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic grounding with a strong sense of mission, global vision and innovative spirit, solid foundation and outstanding professional abilities,in accordance with the overall requirements of "wide-scope, solid-foundation, interdisciplinary, international, practical, and innovative".

(2) Instructions for Curricula
In order to graduate, students in this major must complete at least 160 credits according to the teaching plan. The specific requirements of the courses in are as follows, including:(1)common courses,13 compulsory courses,33 credits;(2)general education courses,14 credits(4 credits for 3 compulsory courses, and 10 credits from courses of other majors);(3)disciplinary core courses, 23 compulsory courses,78 credits;(4)specialized courses, at least 22 credits;(5)others, 13 credits from compulsory courses, including military training, electronic design and technology training (B), internships, graduation thesis, innovation and entrepreneurship training.
(3) Other notes
A curriculum that integrates the undergraduate and graduate courses is available for students in this program,which effectively strengthens the transaction from undergraduate to graduate study and expands students’ scope of knowledge. Students, who have taken and passed postgraduate courses such as "Advanced Quantum Mechanics", "Group Theory", and “Introduction to Condensed Matter Physics”, “Quantum Information and Quantum Computation”, may apply for exemption of these courses, if they pursue graduate study in Xiamen University.
