Introduction to Department of Physics

The department of Physics, founded in 1923, is one of the earliest established departments of physics in China. Currently, there are 72 teachers and 35 technicians in the department, which include 1 member of the National Academy of Sciences (full time), 2 members of the Chinese Academy of Science (adjunct), 1 expert recruited by 1000 Talent Plan, 4 National Distinguished Young Scholars, 10 New (Cross) Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, 9 Minjiang Distinguished Professors, and 3 Xiamen University Distinguished Professors. Through 211 and 985 projects, the department has established a dozen of research group, and formed three disciplines: Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Photonics and Microelectronics. Around the frontiers of Physics, an effectively cross-discipline collaboration system has taken shape.

At present, the department offers post-doctoral research programs in Physics, Ph.D programs (in Physics, Microelectronics and Solid-state Electronics), M.S programs (in Theoretical Physics, Radio Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Optics, and Microelectronics and Solid-state Electronics), and undergraduate programs (in Physics, and Microelectronics).

Both teaching and research are also supported by national and provincial platforms, such as the Engineering Research Center for Micro/Nano Optoelectronic Materials and Devices of Ministry of Education, the Fujian Key Laboratory of Semiconductor Materials and Applications, the Fujian Semiconductor LED Engineering Research Center, and the Fujian MEMS Engineering Research Center.
